Come take a trip with me

So, what are you doing between New Year’s and the start of the spring semester? Instead of spending weeks on the treadmill trying to work off weight gained during the holidays, why not spend it with me in Prague, Vienna, and Budapest?

I’m leading a study tour of the great cities of East Central Europe from January 2-17 and you’re invitied. This tour will focus on “Nation, Space and Place”, which means we are going to spend our time visiting various sites of memory in these cities (plus Tabor in the Czech Republic and Bratislava in the Slovak Republic). As we check out these important locations, we’ll be thinking a lot about how the idea of the nation developed in these socities and how sites of memory were used to create or reinforce certain messages or beliefs about the nation. Of course, like any good study tour, this one will include plenty of free time, tickets to concerts, etc.

You don’t have to be a George Mason University student to take part in this tour. Undergraduate and graduate students can receive academic credit (3 semester hours) for taking part (and doing the assignments). Others can just go along for the ride and enjoy themselves.
