The Way We Were

Posted on December 12, 2006December 26, 2006 by Mills

Regular readers of Edwired will note that the design changed over the weekend. Those handsome geeks in the picture are working away on a Sperry Univac. When I was a kid we actually went on a field trip to the Sperry facility in Washington, D.C., and got to see one of those behemoths in action. My memory was of lots of spinning tapes in a big cold room. If you want to see more pictures of what these babies looked like, check out these pictures of the “world’s most powerful computer” at Columbia University in the late 1950s/early 1960s.
